About Our Prescription Compounding Center

Pharmaca’s Compounding Centers were designed with specialized state-of-the art compounding equipment that enables us to compound each medication to the prescriber’s exact specifications. We specialize in the formulation of non-sterile compound prescriptions, including:

  • Hormone therapy for women and men, including bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (bHRT)
  • Topical anesthetics and medications for pain management
  • Dermatological compounds
  • Adrenal dysfunction and thyroid support
  • Veterinary care

All non-sterile dosage forms are available, including creams, ointments, solutions, syrups, capsules, suppositories and troches.

How has Pharmaca changed its compounding services?

In order to ensure the highest quality and consistency in prescription compounding services, Pharmaca is transitioning to several Centralized Compounding Centers to fill all compound prescriptions.

Why did Pharmaca make the change to its compounding services?

Pharmaca’s new centralized model allows us to invest in the highest quality equipment and facilities. It also allows us to ensure the highest quality control and consistency for our compounding services.

How do I get a compound prescription filled?

You may drop off your compound prescription at your local Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy or have you doctor call it in, just as you do today. Your prescription will be filled within 48 hours of you dropping it off or calling it in. You can then choose to have your prescription mailed either to your Pharmaca store location or directly to your home.

How do I pay for my prescription?

You will receive a phone call from the Compounding Center requesting a credit card to complete payment for your prescription.

How long will it take for me to get my prescription?

Your health and safety is of the utmost importance to us and so is the quality of your compounded medications.
Shipping time will depend on the delivery option you choose. We ship USPS First Class Mail, but if you need your prescription expedited, faster shipping options are available. Depending on which option you choose, we will ship your prescription to your local Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy or to your home.

How do I know when I have a new prescription?

When we receive a new prescription from your clinician, we will call you within 24 hours. If you don’t hear from us, please feel free to contact your local Pharmaca to check on the status of your compound.

Can I use insurance to pay for my compounded prescription?

Pharmaca may be able to bill your insurance directly, though some insurance plans require patients to pay in advance and request reimbursement. Please check with your insurance plan or pharmacist to determine if your plan will cover the cost of your compound prescription.

What are the shipping options for my prescription?

  • Pick up at your local Pharmaca – Free
  • USPS 1st Class Mail to your home – Patient pays postage fees (Note that not all prescriptions can be sent via USPS)
  • FedEx 2nd Day or Standard Overnight – Additional charges apply
  • Controls and refrigerated prescriptions require expedited shipping. We will discuss options when we contact you.

What types of compound prescriptions does Pharmaca fill?

We fill almost all non-sterile compounds, including:

  • Hormone therapy for women and men, including bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (bHRT)
  • Topical anesthetics and medications for pain management
  • Dermatological compound
  • Adrenal dysfunction and thyroid support
  • Veterinary care

What do I do if I have an issue with my prescription?

Please contact the Compounding Center directly by calling the number that appears on your prescription label.

Can I return my prescription?

Federal regulations prohibit the return of any prescriptions that have been dispensed.

How long is my prescription good for?

If your prescription has a controlled substance (e.g. testosterone), it is good for 6 months from the date the doctor authorizes the prescription. All other prescriptions are good for up to one year, if refills are available.

The beyond-use date (expiration) of your compounded medication will vary depending on what is prescribed.

What do I do if I am out of refills?

If you are out of refills, please call the Pharmaca phone number that appears on your prescription label and we will fax your prescriber a refill authorization request. We give the clinician up to 72 hours to respond before we refax. If we do not hear from them by that point, we will contact both you and the clinician’s office.

Where does Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy ship compounded prescriptions?

We are currently licensed in and can ship to California, Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington.
